The Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)
I also work with individuals who identify as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). This trait can also be referred to as Sensory Processing Sensitivity.
The world is not experienced the same for everyone, and for Highly Sensitive People, the differences can feel vast and may be unpleasantly intense. Someone who identifies as an HSP may have a tendency to process information more deeply, are observant of subtleties in their surroundings, experience overstimulation and feel easily overwhelmed, & more easily understand and experience the emotions of others.
Individuals who identify as HSP may feel misunderstood by others and the traits may have impacts across all life domains. Being a HSP does not mean that you have a disorder nor a need to be fixed. Therapy can be a place to help better understand your traits, develop health and lifestyle changes, as well as strategies to enhance relationships effectiveness and work.
